SINGING Continued...
How Do I Get Prepared?
  • Memorize your music: start with the Practice Track, and then prepare to sing from memory with the Audition Track.
  • Don't just sing -- perform the song as if you were on stage in front of an audience
  • Use appropriate facial expressions, body motion, gestures to communicate the music
  • Let your voice fill the space -- project!
  • Sing as often as you can in front of people who will give you honest feedback -- your parents love you but they may not always be honest about how you sound. Sing for friends and family who will give you honest, constructive feedback.
  • Record yourself singing and watch the recording. Pay attention to your face, your vocal volume and how well you use your entire body to communicate the music. Take note of what you need to improve. Improve it, record it and watch again. Repeat this process often.
AUDITION 2: ACTING
What Will I Have to Do?
  • Each student will prepare, memorize and deliver a 1 minute monologue

How Do I Get Prepared?
  • Download the audition packet HERE
    • Review the packet for ways to properly present yourself when delivering a monologue.
  • Practice your monologue often until you can comfortably deliver it from memory
  • Make a video recording of your monologue and watch it. Pay attention to your face and your acting choices. Take note of what you need to improve, improve it and do it again. Repeat this process often.

AUDITION 3: DANCING
What Will I Have to Do?
  • Learn a 30 second choreo on the day of the audition, no videos will be provided ahead of time.

How Do I Get Prepared?
  • Please stretch daily and warm up before the audition.
  • Listen to music from "Once Upon a Mattress" and try counting the beat of the song, clap to the rhythm, etc.
  • Find someone who takes dance and ask for their help to practice kicks, basic turns (Chainne turns, single pirouettes, pique turns), and jumps (saute, assemble, and leaps).
