LION KING PROGRAM
Color copies are expensive and can cause a major drain on funds that can be used for other educational purposes. Therefore the programs passed out in tonight's show are in black and white. As a result, some of the pictures may be a bit harder to see (especially the picture of Mr. Yancey in the Musical Production Staff picture).
For a full-color version of tonight's program, click here. Feel free to download it and take the file to your nearest Staples/Office Max/Office Depot and print your own full-color copy of the program to enjoy for years to come.

It is our goal to nurturing singing for a lifetime. I hope that everyone of you will continue singing in your church choir, community choirs, start a local band and, for my 8th graders, I hope that you will continue singing in one of the many FANTASTIC high school programs here in Wake County. Many programs have an audition and other specific requirements. As I get information I will post it here. For the most accurate and up to date information, send your selected director an email with your questions.
ApexDirector: Ms. Heather Copley

Anima Mea & Cor Meum
Your practice video for Anima Mea is due Wednesday (today) no later than 11:59pm. Be sure to get that turned in. Your video for Cor Meum is due by FRIDAY (no later than 11:59pm). Use the accompaniment track (the first one) in the back ground as you sing your part. Take time and practice with the practice tracks if you need to but don't use the practice track in your video -- only the accompaniment track.
I am listening for (1) Tall vowels with lots of space in the mouth (swan space), (2) Correct Latin pronunciation and (3) Dynamics. |

Pre-Thanksgiving Performance Updates
There are lots of things to be thankful for. I am thankful to have the opportunity to work with all of your children and make great music all day long with some of the most amazingly talented kids on the planet. See the Pre-Thanksgiving Performance Updates by clicking here (sent home on 11/21).
Pieces of Gold Auditions
Each year at Martin, the Performing Arts department rotates which discipline is going to represent Martin at Pieces of Gold. That responsibility has fallen to Chorus this year. We will sing "Letter From a Girl to the World." This performance will feature only girls from all chorus classes. Our audition will be on Wednesday, December 6th at 3:30pm at Riverbend Middle School (6620 Perry Creek Rd.; Raleigh). Because this is an after school audition time, parents will be responsible for transporting children to and from the audition. For attire, students will wear normal school clothes, nothing special -- as this is just the audition. If we are selected to perform then we will talk outfits. If you have questions that aren't covered here, please contact me via email or text.

Volunteers!
Throughout the school year there are various activities that we engage in that would be completed more efficiently with the help of parent volunteers (i.e. driving to local performance venues, helping with rehearsals, etc.). However, in accordance with WCPSS policies, all parent volunteers must be cleared through WCPSS before they can volunteer. I am asking EVERY available parent to register as a WCPSS volunteer. As a WCPSS volunteer, you'll never be required to do anything you don't want to do or placed in an uncomfortable situation. You will always have the option to decline or request a different duty; however if you wish to volunteer but have not been cleared you will not be allowed to to so.
I also kindly ask that when you register to be a WCPSS volunteer that you also check the box that allows you to be a cleared driver. Again, you'll never be forced to drive anyone anywhere, but without this clearance you will only be permitted to drive your child(ren) to and from school sanctioned events. We ran into some very tight transportation issues last year. Having more parents cleared as a driver would be a tremendous help.
To register you must come in to any Wake County Public school (you don't have to drive to Martin, just go to the school closest to your home) and tell the front desk person that you would like to register as a WCPSS volunteer and they'll get you set up. Due to safety concerns, registering on your computer at home is not possible. Click here for more information.

Staying in the Loop
Technology is constantly changing. The way we get important information is constantly changing. I understand that coming to the website to check for new information is pretty old school. Therefore for this school year, this website will only be used as a practice platform and a place to download important files and documents. Email is also getting pretty outdated (as students keep telling me), therefore current information about performances, tests and projects will be communicated directly to your smartphone via Remind, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. All smartphone using chorus participants and parents are required to sign up for Remind. Click your class name/period below to get signed up:
Choral Ensemble (6th & 7th period) Women's Ensemble (8th period) Men's Ensemble (4th period) Honors Chorus (3rd period) Is Facebook your main source of information? Join our Facebook Group! Do you Tweet? Follow us on Twitter! Is Instagram your thing? Follow us on Instagram! Snapchat is just weird and confusing... we will NOT be using Snapchat Little slips of paper stuffed in a backpack not only waste trees, time and energy, they also usually get lost. Be sure to sign up for Remind and follow us on social media to get updates sent directly, instantly to you. Not doing so may mean that you miss important information and your grade/your child's grade may suffer for it... and nobody wants that to happen. By the way, if ever you need to reach Mr. Yancey an email is fine ([email protected]) but through the busy-ness of the day I may not get to check it until the next morning. If you need a faster response, a text message is preferred. Once you sign up for remind, you can text directly to me, and I should be able to respond, in most cases, within the hour if I'm teaching during the school day or less if I'm not teaching. |
Google Drive
Every chorus student will need access to Google Drive this year. Most at home practice assignments will require it. As a Wake County student you have access to Google Drive through your WCPSS email. Be sure to talk to your homeroom teacher on the first couple days of school about how to access your account. Once you get in to your Google Drive, create a folder and name it "Chorus" and then share that folder with [email protected]. Once you've done that, I'll be able to check and grade any practice assignments that you place in it. If you are having trouble with this, let me know during the first week of school and I'll help as best as I can. Yay technology!!!

Mustang Music Volume 4
I promise you it's coming. Believe it or not, there are still two songs that need to be finished and I've been waiting to get them all done. Once I can get those folks in to finish recording, it'll be released. Thanks for your patience as we ensure that "no 'song' is left behind."
